I'm fairly new to coin grading but have a pretty good eye... Just wondering when you have morgans graded, does the year have some sway in the grade? For example,if two identical coins had same marks and flaws but one was from a year that had less in the pop would it grade higher? (I know that mints and years produce different qualities of coins even at the highest state, for this discussion ignore that fact) Anyones input would be appreciated. Thanks

I took the liberty of altering your thread title a bit to be more reflective of your intent.

Theoretically grading standards should not change regardless of the coin's scarcity. In the real world, I see common-date and common-grade Morgans held to a lesser standard than the scarcer ones, on the part of all TPG's. It's far easier to make MS65 as an 1881-S than as an 1893-S.

Dave is correct ^ However, some issues are notoriously known for weak strikes, so most TPGs will take that into consideration on them as well, some of the New Orleans minted issues have weakly struck up areas so while they may appear to have wear, one needs to examine them quite closely for wear or rub marks and make sure it is not just a weakly struck example, weak strike coins will still bring less money than a fully struck example in the same grade.
