A few years back, I started the World Variety Gallery. Since there are few online resources for world coin varieties, this will be a place to post diagnostic pictures to help collectors collect and identify variety coins.

Some posting guidelines for the gallery:

  • Keep it simple: post a concise description of the important details with a picture clearly showing the variety. For example--overdates should show a closeup of the date--see the gallery for examples.

  • Keep the quality high: Post your best errors and varieties. Of course, this is a judgment call. But, minor die chips and centering errors are probably best left to forum posts.

  • Keep discussions off the gallery.--to keep things clear and easy to navigate.

  • Gallery is subject to editing by the moderators for content or for clariity

Thanks and hope to see your contributions to the gallery!

What is the link for World Variety Gallery? This seems like a very good idea to me. I can not count the number of times I've had a coin I found in the catalog and it says there are large letter and small letter varieties. Doesn't do much good if you only have one type.

I agree--the catalogs don't do much good without pictures, hence the value of the gallery.
I should have mentioned--the gallery is a sticky topic on the forum index.
