I know you meant that as a joke, so no harm, no foul, but I'm going to take the opportunity to reiterate to those reading but not posting: The easiest way to get yourself in deep redacted by Bad Word Filter at Coin Community is to try to engage in commerce either with a new member, or as a new member. That makes us all soggy and hard to light.

I should buy the rest just to stop them being melted.. I am horrified that the owner is considering that..
I will look at the others (that I just bought) tonght and see if any are standout. I know a couple are more worn than these, and there are a couple of 1921s, which even in good condition are not as collectable...

the problem is that the store is in a town a long way away so if I buy any more I would have to have them shipped, a lot more risky that I can't pick them out.. but I think it is worth the risk.. offering spot +$2 just to keep him happy..

That's very generous of you, but the two coins you've already posted more than offset that generosity.

Hi.. I wasn't trying to be rude with my +$2 offer, I was just hoping to keep him happy to do business from afar.. and not send him running to the melter.
I asked him to count his Morgans, Peace and ASEs and then hopefully we can talk price.
Any advice on how best to deal with this?

silverexile,
I think that you got the answer that you were posing.
A few observations:
- A pawn broker is NOT a coin collector and has no obligation to save coins
from the melting pot.
- A profit is a profit is a profit.
- He sounds willing to work with you. A very good sign.

Was he located in a rural area? It may cost him a bit to to transport the silver
to a smelter.
As I told you in your introduction, you know your silver price better than I.
The members seem to be in agreement.
Proceed with confidence.

Less and less pawnshops, and consignment stores/ flea-markets around my town and surrounding towns will even consider dealing with coins. It's due to the crime. You did good, hope it works out.

No, of course not - I meant my words literally and not sarcastically. You chose to give him more than he asked for the coins, in return for him going to the trouble of sending them to you.

My guess is he's completely on the up-and-up, being a brick and mortar store which you've physically visited. It's not like he's unknown to you now. So, depending on his terms, work out a number and either send a Money Order or Paypal if he takes it, sit back and await your coins.

At that price, your margin more than covers the extra cost per coin and shipping. Priority Mail, with tracking. Don't forget tracking, so you're both protected.
