Hi all.. New here, and just moving a conv from the New Members Forum to here to get some more specific advice. The basic story is that I tried my luck in a Pawn Shop and was offered a ton of Morgans, and some Peace at Melt price, $16 each. I am a very new, small time collector so didn't want to rush in but think this is a good deal. I bought some, and will post some pics when I get a chance, but to my untrained eye, condition of most are good, not UNC I assume. So - I think $16 is a good price? Even in poorest condition? Should I go 'all in' and get the rest. I bought 12 already.. He has maybe another 10, some Peace dollars. More junk silver than is possible to count (also at spot price) and a variety of Silver Eagles... He says he will melt these as soon as he gets round to it (really?), so time may be short. I'll take photos later...... SE PS - why is my post count still at zero?

Buy em all, 16 bucks apiece is an excellent deal. Can you post pics of some that you've bought already ?

Every Morgan you can at $16. That's 2006 pricing, technically still a few cents above melt but the only way you get Morgans at melt these days is with a gun. For the record, posts in the Welcome Forum (and a couple others) do not count towards postcount. We very deliberately only count posts which contribute directly to the numismatic content at Coin Community - which you are so nicely doing here.

Wow, at $16 I'd drop whatever I was doing and go back for the rest of them now.

I would jump all over that deal. I still pay $25 each where I'm located.

I suggest you weigh them and do the magnet test on them. Some third world countries are creating forgeries of Morgans. Just a heads up. I am sure the pawn dealer is happy to move them and make a slight profit. If I had to guess he probably paid between 10-12 bucks for them on avg. From there, assuming they all pass, you may get lucky and find some VAM's out of the lot. VAM's can be found here; http://www.vamworld.com/Morgan+VAMs+By+DateI hope ya find a winner coin that will pay for the entire lot !

No doubt about it, I wouldn't even think twice about the $16 price tag. Buy him out!

Thanks all for your comments.. Photos coming now. The 2 that I am putting up, are not necessarily the best of those I bought, just two examples... Lot lookig for exact condition/value (although that would be good), but general comments much appreciated. I am not a great photographer....

Nice, I just bought some at $15 a month ago. Getting them for melt is a winner anytime.
The two your posted are in nice shape, definitely not junk.
Buy the ASEs at melt, too.

Wow. The two you posted - although the images are too small for any definitive opinion - are no worse than Almost Uncirculated. Both may be Mint State, the 1889 more likely than the 1878. They're both worth multiples of what you paid. Bought the rest yet?
