Alright, I missed the boat on getting the first spouse coins from the mint....has anyone been watching the prices on ebay? I thought I'd get on there and see a $100 increase on each coin, yeah right. are these things still worth the price? or should I just call it a missed oppurtunity? ( I only took a glimpse, but it seems they are selling for almost double the issue price...)

I think it is too early to tell if the demand will be sustained. My intial guess is that the dealers are trying to make a quick buck. 40,000 minted of each is low but does not make them scarce or even hard to get because the dealers probably have the majority of them. The 2001 buffalo sliver is a good example. As the dealers are releasing them into the market the prices are slowly but surely coming down because they will start to undercut each other.

It is hard to say....but if it does continue to go up you could be priced out if you want to have to entire set of 1st ladies. I have an Abby....trying to get a Martha

At 40,000 coins if the price continues to go up then it may force them out of the market. The question that waits to be seen is what real numismatic value these coins hold for collectors.

I would like to see how much they go for in the secondary market, a year from now. I think the Jefferson gold will be the most popular, due to the recycled obverse design.

When the dust does settle, I wouldn't bank on these being all that popular with collectors. Low mintage - yes, gold - yes, but nothing special about what's featured on the coins. In a couple year's time I'd be surprised if these were going for much over issue price.

low mintage + gold = demand right? I would think these would always stay above issue price, as long as they stay at low mintages.

Having a low mintage doesn't always mean you have a winner. Look at the platinum proof bullion series, except for the 2004's they could be purchased for around their original issue price.

For this series, my problem is the 11-year investment. I like the four liberty head. But except for Jefferson, the other three are less known. I might just pass or only get Jefferson's liberty.

Are the spouse dollars released into circulation through the banks or are they only sold as special sets?
Anyone have pictures? I haven't seen them yet.

The spouse dollars can only be purchased through the mint. You could purchase either the uncirculated or the proof.
