I don't believe its a die crack, never seen one there and I've looked at a lot of 1951 50 cent coins. I would rate it is between VF and VF+.

I can't tell if its a die crack or a scratch, the photo isn't clear enough. It also looks like Narrow Date but hard to tell from the photo. I would agree with pqinrh about the grade.

Both photos are too fuzzy. Does the line on the coin stand above the surface of the coin or does it sink into the coin?

chwkboy, it might be on the surface. Hard to tell unless I 'scratch' through it. Probably not a good idea. Here's another '51 with a somewhat similar line.

Kafka's coin is a scratch,
torgemco's, coin looks like it has been hit with something on the rim, you can see tthe 'bend' near the date.

Looks like someone tried to make a vise brockage, but neglected to turn the coin another 90 degrees.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning... -from PCGS website
