I know there are several people who take great interest in the fruadulant coins coming from China and elsewhere...what do you make of this and any advice on how to appraoch this subject? I am auctioning a Proof 2006-W American Silver Eagle with box and COA. I have the following correspondence from an ebay member sent to me as a question about the ASE: my friend : Chinese manufacture silver American high precise duplication coin,If you are interested my coin, I may give you Transmission picture, our coin is the Chinese precise duplication coin,, please contact we, hoped we may become the cooperation the good partner.my mail I left off his email for the time being, it is a hotmail address. Any suggestions on what to do? Who would I turn the info over to (if anyone) that would monitor this and find out/stop the fraud? Or does this lead to so many endless trails it is not worth it?

I can barely understand what he's saying. Sound like he's e-mailing all the sellers on ebay and wants people to buy "buy" his coin but he ends up with your money and you get no coin, even if it's a fake one. I would ignore him.

Sounds to me like he is emailing ebay sellers hoping to capitalize on their greed in offering fake coins for them to sell thereby removing the china connection as most people are now aware of that. This would allow distribution in the US by greedy US sellers, which opens a whole new arena for collectors to be cautious about; or as posted above, he justs gets your money and you never hear from him again.

I feel you have to report him to ebay so that they will close his account(s). Sellers registered in China should experience more and more problems to sell their fakes as people are getting well informed through sites like this one. So they are trying to find people from other countries to sell their fakes, hoping they will not be that easily recognized as such. For buyers this means that they must not only avoid sellers from China but have to get familiarized to this kind of fakes!

Ech. Definitely report him, hopefully something can be done (but probably not). At least I guess they'll close his account or something, maybe that will hurt if he's built up some positive feedback. The idea of fakes makes me queasy. And knowing that there may be a middleman who buys from this guy and then sells them to us makes me even more queasy. Another reason to stay away from ebay!

I would report him to ebay and any other agency I could think of. try to stop him if you can but that is not an easy thing but at least you can get it out there. that's the best you can do and you will be able to sleep at nite knowing you did your part. Gary too

Write this back to him. It will confuse the heck out of him and he'll spend a while trying to figure out what it means.

basicbob101: Write back that you'll accept the coins and pay him upon receipt (maybe). That'll get a laugh. Heck, if it is good for him, why not you.

Report him, If we all reported people like this, ebay might be a better place for all buyers and sellers.

To Whom it May Concern! Be VERY suspicious of ANY coins from Asia! At least 90% are counterfeit! My advice: Just say, "NOT NO, BUT HELL NO"! In the case above, report it to ebay. Besides, we have enough "funng miney", as it is! Dick

I think you should report him also, but from what I have seen is that ebay wont do much about it. There are many stolen items selling on ebay and they know it unfortunately its just a business to them. This crook is no different that someone selling stolen cameras....
