I recognize it as very early. About 5th century BC I believe. When you stop and think that makes it around 1,000 years before the end of the "Empire of the West" !

Its from Asia Minor ...... Area of Caria I seem to recall. Somehow (I don't even remember where or how) I managed to acquire a similar coin many years ago. I sits in my 'box'. I am too afraid to take the thing out ..... might loose it !

Imagine how many of these got swallowed in antiquity. You forget people did not wear pants and carried small denomination in their mouths.
