Railgrinder ... You are indeed quickly acquiring examples of this very difficult 144-coin series ... very few of us ever attempt to achieve the goal you have set for yourself.

Your commitment to the set and progress to date are indeed admirable ... and I absolutely salute your interest and ambition towards the completion of a very difficult and challenging collecting endeavor.

Hopeful to view photographs of both sides of the coins someday.

David

Railgrinder ... nice Oregon addition.

I will pause after that comment to suggest that my lack of recent response to your thread is because IMHO you are not contributing to the collective CCF mission.

The mission of this forum is education ... and as such we hope that newer members such as yourself realize there are experts and novices alike that hang out here ... and in some way contribute to the ongoing discussion.

That is ... contribute beyond just 'look at my coins'.

Every post from you ... so far ... has been about your coins and asking for us to give you feedback on them.

Trust me ... I'm enjoying your coins ... but you should understand that none of us have the time to simply reply to continuing 'look at me' threads without a commensurate effort by the poster to contribute back to us.

Please consider expanding your contributions to educated comments on other members topics ...

@nickelsearcher: Perfectly stated!

@Railgrinder: I look forward to seeing your expanded contributions to CCF.

I'm just wondering, do you plan to upgrade the cleaned ones later on? There are quite a few and this is not the way I would go about building a commemorative set. To each their own, though. Congrats on the acquisitions.

I do apologize, I may have misunderstood the point of the forum as I thought it was a place for people to discuss and share commemorative coins. I was only sharing new additions to show the progress of the set and I for one enjoy looking at them. I've never asked for any opinions on the coins I've already purchased and only once on a potential purchase. I, in no way meant to "show off" or use and abuse the knowledge of those here and if taken that way I offer my Most sincere apology. At 32 years of age many of my friends do not share my coin appreciation so it was nice to find a group that shared my commemorative interests. Again I'm sorry and offer a sincere apology. So until I can offer some useful information that novice and experts here may not know back to lurking I shall go.

I do not think you did anything wrong!

I do not think any ill-will was intended by the previous comments. Perhaps just a nudge to take it to the next level.

I enjoy looking at everyone's photos, even if I do not always post a comment.

I completely understand the desire to connect with others who share your interest, so please, continue to share your collection.

Now, a much broader statement...

This is a community. While the primary mission of this community is to educate, this is not its only mission.

Another big part of this community is building lasting relationships, the kind one can value and trust. This is very important in hobby like ours, where we might not always have friends who share our zeal.

For me, this community is about sharing. Sharing not only our knowledge, but our goals, our progress, our successes, and our failures.

Not everyone can be an educator. Posting photos are a great thing new members can contribute without knowing a single thing. We should never, ever discourage this.

I completely agree with Jbuck, to me there is no harm in posting pictures of your latest acquisitions! In fact, I will go the opposite way of some of the members and say that I like to see how peoples sets are progressing. And I may not (in fact usually don't) drop a comment on every coin, but I enjoy looking at them.

A big part of a community like this is just being able to share your enthusiasm by posting the your latest acquisitions and finds. If we did not allow such participation and sharing it would lead to a freeze because only the people who have mind blowing top pop coins or who have done extensive research would be the ones posting. While I certainly enjoy posts from those who have done that (Like Commems mind blowing posts on here,) I also enjoy just seeing other people working on their sets. In fact it often gives me good ideas for sets I want to do or coins that I want or just a kick in the butt to get back to working on my set!

Bottom line is I say continue to post! I will certainly still enjoy them.

Before this thread goes off in an unintended (and unwanted) direction, I feel I must comment.

When I responded in support of nickelsearcher's post, there was no intent on my part to discourage the posting of Railgrinder's collection updates - nor do I think nickelsearcher was trying to discourage such.

Personally, I view nickelsearcher's post as one that encouraged Railgrinder to get more involved in CCF and to more fully realize its potential. We all enjoy sharing parts of our collection, and I also believe that we enjoy interacting/having a dialogue with fellow collectors about what we share. Dialogue is a two-way street that should be encouraged whenever possible.

CCF is definitely a place for collectors of all levels to share stories, pictures or whatever about their collection. We all have something to offer and we all should be encouraged to support each other's efforts. I believe that was the message that was being delivered.

I look forward to continued updates by Railgrinder on his pursuit and also to his thoughts on the contributions of others.

As did I when I first read it, mostly because I understand him rather well. It was not until Railgrinder posted that I felt a need to intervene.

No hard feelings for anyone. We are all friends here.

Even with all the clarification of the comment, I would be hesitant to continue to post if I were railgrinder. Honestly, I feel it was irresponsible to comment without proof reading to assure some tact was used. Not saying this was purposeful, but that's the way I read it. Now, should I not post a new coin for fear of "showing off". Another vote for railgrinder to carry on.

I support that vote ... and certainly enjoy viewing the coins this new member wishes to share.

I stand by my original feedback ... call it a mid-course correction suggestion. With an apparent black eye for me.

The OP railgrinder is an experienced collector of the series as evidenced by his/her rather impressive collection ... and as such should consider expanding their contributions to the CCF family to other folks threads where the input would be welcomed.

It's as simple as that CCF family ... just my honest view that a new expert should consider contributing beyond just their own threads.

Hopeful to read railgrinder input on many topics in this forum.

David
