A Massachusetts State Quarter. Depicting the Minuteman Statue, sculpted by Daniel Chester French, at the North Bridge in Concord where history says the first shot of the American War for Independence occurred. Minutemen, so named because they were ready to take up arms at a minutes notice.

"By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson-

If you look real close, behind him you see a plow, depicting the fact that they were ordinary farmers, taking up arms against the mighty British Army to fight for their freedom and the independence of their new nation.

hi and thanks should have mentioned that this quarter was received with some change. I've been saving u.s. coinage from change for nearly 20 yrs and have roughly 40.00/50.00 usf. thinking it might be time for sifting through them. should I look for anything that might be considered obscure or a rarity. I know its a tall order, but just wondering if anything springs to mind. over the next few days/weeks i`ll try and catalogue them
regards

Without getting into extensive detail, anything 1964 and before, is silver. To go into more detail, you should get a Red Book for U.S. Coins. Or one of those " Get Rich From Pocket Change " guides.

Once in awhile I'll go through some change and find that in pretty good shape and reflect back on the design of the coin looking at the minuteman and say to myself "Massachusetts was upset about the unfair taxes levied on them by the British" but today a lot of MA residents people exit to New Hampshire that has no sales or income tax or the MA residents go elsewhere because of MA's high taxes.

Nickles never had silver except for the war years of 1942 to 1945.
