Hey to anyone that can offer me some help in this situation. Upon searching through a $500 box of bank rolled halves, I was frustrated not to find a single silver coin. Refusing to be completely skunked, I began weighing every coin. Out of 1000 coins, one weighed between 11.5 and 11.6 grams. (my scale only does one decimal point.) It was a 1980 D
Kennedy half. Upon reading in the "strike it rich with pocket change" book, I noticed a 1971 D
Kennedy half that was struck accidentally on a 40% silver planchet. The book says this type of error weighs 11.5 grams instead of 11.3 grams. It also says that you cant tell its silver just from the edge. I did a specific gravity test to the best of my understanding, and it all came out equal to a 1968 40% silver half. Here are some photos. It is thicker than the silver coin but basically, I know there is something wrong with it, but what. And what is it worth? Is it rare? Heres those pics any help is appreciated.
