So at a local coin shop they have a little box of random foreign coins for 25 cents each. I came across this and tried looking it up but I'm still confused about the country of origin and year. I thought it was neat and I only paid a quarter :)

My only guess is Japan, the Chrysanthemum is the symbol of the Japanese Emperor.

I'm sure someone will be along in no time to give a better answer for the date of it, a nice little item, 25 cents is a good price for it.

Nice addition to the 'How far back can we go? Second Edition!' post. Make sure to post in the 'Welcome - Introduce Yourself Here' area.

I believe it is a Chinese coin, either late Empire or early Republic. The reverse (the side with out the dragon) has the 'boo' on the left hand side. Across from it, on the right is the mint. I've seen that mark before but I don't know what it is off hand. There should be some lettering around the dragon but I can't see any in the photo. Is it worn off?

I believe so. When I hold it at an angle I think I see extremely feint parts of characters.

Around what year do you think it is or are the factors for determining age worn off?

I believe this is struck in between 1902 - 1905.

No. This particular variety is not supposed to have any English-language script around the dragon.

Some Chinese 10-cash coins have dates on them, many do not. This particular variety (some variant of K/Y# 49) is known to have been issued in the Zhejiang (Chekiang) Province mint sometime in the period 1903-1906.
