Rubidium? Rhenium? Those seem like weird elements to be in a coin!

Palladium too! I bet this is an ultra-rare "amalgamated bullion coin" created to cut down on individual demand for gold, silver, etc.

Before I speculate any further, Bob - can you please elaborate what is the device used to analyse the data?

Is the coin removed from the slab or you can use the spectrometer to analyze any coins in any slab?

It's an 18K Xray gizmo that can scan right through any slab. I have the guy's card, I'll post the guy's info when I gat to the show.

I would guess this scam only succeeds because of the slab--ie you can't weigh the coin.
That's a nice XRF unit--the results are fascinating--I wish I had one to test my coins and other things.

I saw this coin in another webpage, the characters are bolder and not as fine as the real one, also the character for the Chinese word year is wrong on the fake one.

But would be easier just scan it and know it right away, the 18K price? Well...
