Picked up a Canadian Collection and some of the halves are listed as Hoof over 3, over 4, etc. Are these desirable and collectible varieties? Do the command a premium?
Rest in Peace

The only 'recognized' hoof-thru-dates are the well publicized 1946 hoof in six and the 1949 hoof over 9 and they do command a significant premium.... the other date hoof-overs (and there are a lot since the man-power demand on the Mint personnel from WW-II made for very poor quality control) do not command a premium unless you can find a collector who specializes in Minor Varieties such as die cracks etc.

I have to admit that I am one of those collectors, specializing in the George VI 50 cent Major and Minor Varieties. I started by purchasing the Zoell catalogues but have since far surpassed the number of varieties that he listed for this era.

It is facinating how some die breaks get a followig, and other similar ones are ignored.

This 1943 Die Crack hoof-over is listed by Zoell as FL444w in his 3rd Minor Catalogue.
