Unfortunately, they are minted to order. The Mint does not decide how many are going to be released. If the Federal Reserve Banks order more, they mint more. But you would think that as more and more people realize that their State Quarter hoards are worth nothing more than face and start dumping them back into circulation, there would be a glut of quarters in the monetary system. Unless the low mintages of previous issues is catching up with supplies.

All the circulating denominations have seen their mintages climbing for the last couple years so its not something unique to the ATBs right now.
With how many coins the mints currently putting putting out I wouldnt be surprised to see the highest grades be a conditional rarity with them rushing the process.

I wonder if we would see reduced mintages if the mint/fed reserve had free coin counting machines to help get change back in circulation. Then again, who still carries a pocket full of change. I just keep mine in a jar and once I get a bit, I use it at a self checkout machine.

I picked up a few in my change when I was in San Jose last month, but haven't seen any here in Tucson.

The Fed accelerated release of the State Quarters. They aren't doing it with the ATB series. I'm sure many are still sitting in Fed vaults.

Probably everyone has some State Quarters saved. I don't watch the modern day mintage anymore. It would take years for our common coins to be worth money.

My Mt Rushmore came in the set of 2013 NGC PF69s I won on ebay for, get this, $35 shipped. That's five, count'em five, silver proof State Quarters graded and slabbed for $7 each. There are still some deals on ebay if you're patient and search diligently. Rick

Since 2012, I have been buying a roll of the S-minted ATB Quarters. On average the S-minted ATB Quarters mintages are around 1.7 million. The P & D ATB Quarters I have are in mint sets. In SoCal, I still have not run across a Mt Rushmore, but the Fort McHenry's are plentiful.

The Mt. Rushmore is the first ATB Quarter design to exceed the lowest-mintage State Quarter design (Oklahoma). I buy the "S" rolls also, but I must admit that the Rushmore D's I have are excellent, some are quite close to the "S" Quarters' quality.
