Came across this interesting article.

Knew a bus driver many years ago (when they had to handle coins for payment and change) who had to wear gloves to avoid an allergic reaction.

Old news, the 2009 US mint numbers were low because they were thinking about changing them but figured they had not stirred up enough fear about a minor allergy,

But for the 10% of the population who suffer from a nickel allergy

I have it and this month I'm only up to $300 in nickels... and going back for more on Monday. It's a minor tingle, I wash my hands, it goes away. For someone that handles coins all day and has this problem gloves would be a good idea. The way they are making the new coins may make it worse for some but the natural metallic element of nickel is the root cause.
Is this the same type of bullion grab that happened with gold and silver, or a concerned government taking care of a small percent of the population? Why can't it be both?It may take a hundred years for nickel to be $20 per ounce (about $6 per pound now). If it is all tied up in trillions of coins then it can not be used for manufacturing. Canada has quit making the cent and no longer uses solid nickel to make the rest of their coins. I know the Canadian mint is melting down all cents, I think they may be working on melting the other older coins too, not certain thou.

Like Will Rogers said about land, get them now, they ain't making any more of them.

Yes, old silver and nickel coins are being actively swept out by the RCM. It is getting difficult to find any of the 1992 Provincial commemoratives, and any nickel date (especially 1970)... luckily I have 3 rolls of fairly shiny 1973 commemorative quarters that my dad saved when he was young. If you want a good investment opportunity, buy some low-mintage Canadian nickel coins now - especially the 1970 and 1991 (already, this sells for $5 in any condition) quarters in circulated condition. The time is coming when they will not be in circulation any longer.
