I have a simple question. I buy my 1oz silver bullion pandas only from MCM and APMEX. Is there a chance that any of these could be fakes?

If you buy from trusted dealers like you are, you are much less likely to get fakes. You should always test them yourself to make sure they are real. Even if they are fakes, they should offer you a replacement or a refund.

Hope this helps

If the Pandas are fake from the 2 dealers above, then most likely all others are fakes as well! APMEX buy back what they sell.

While fake Pandas are not easy to spot, they certainly are not difficult either. Stay away from foreign dealers on ebay. Stay with trusted dealers like APMEX, Provident, MCM, Silvertowne....... you are going to get the best prices from these guys anyway on recent bullion issues.

If you are trying to back fill a collection through ebay, craigslist, local shops, do your homework, educate yourself a little.
I collect raw and slabbed. The fakes are really not that hard to be suspicious of.

You can trust APMEX. XRF testing is quick and easy and you can bet London to a brick 'on' that APMEX has more than enough testing instruments for XRF.

They would always refund, if you can prove what was bought from them was fake.

There are some great resources online and forums devoted to Pandas, several good books out there too, forget the chaps name.

If you buy from a good dealer, (wont say great) that has a "good reputation"... you will be safe. Theres APMEX as has been mentioned, theres a fine gentleman I was buying from years ago called CE Collection, I have bought from Goldmart.

MCM and APMX are good and I doubt they are fakes. Theres nothing to say someone doesn't get greedy and does pull something off tho but what are the odds?

Personally, I wont be collecting Pandas going forward. They have over saturated the market with these and they are not the top of the pack anymore in my opinion. Love the bear tho!

Thanks all. I have been buying over the last 4 to 5 weeks my world silver bullion coins which I have shied away from in the past. I only have purchased in the past ASE and Canada 1 oz Maple leaf coins. But the designs I have been looking at for 2014 got my attention. So I am the proud owner of 3 Taku Coins (2 for my girls), 1 - 2014 Somolia Silver Elephant, 1 - 2014 Silver Canadian Maple Leaf, 1 -2014 Austria Silver Vienna Philharmonic and 1 - 2014 Silver Koala and 1 - 2014 Silver Kookaburra Coin. I still have to get the 1 oz Silver Mexican Libertad Coin and the 1 oz Silver Britannia Coin.

You really need to add a Panda in there. It is an Iconic world bullion coin. They may not have the super premiums they had before the mintages went from 600,000 to 8,000,000, but since 2011, 1.3 billion Chinese are now allowed to collect them and this will affect supplies. (But that is a discussion for another time, and I won't hijack your thread with it)

But we don't collect silver for investment anyway. I have on going albums for Pandas, Libertads, ASEs, Philharmonics and just started one for Britannias.

Philmarmonics are the kid's favorites. The series just started in 2008, we have them all and add a new one every year. They enjoy feeling that they got in on the "ground floor" of a series. They enjoy speculating how old they are going to be when the album is full

The 2014 silver kiwi is also very nice hutch.

I got a fake 2009 panda and it turned me off collecting past dates but I pick up current issues from reliable dealers that way its worry free.

@ silverleaf, I have not even seen one of those yet. I will look them up.

@ Denco, when my kids saw Dad was not buying only the ASE and saw the variety the world silver bullion coins offered their interests was revived. Their favorites are the Koala's, Panda's, elephants and the Kookaburra coins. I love spending time with them looking at each coin and discussing the countries they come from.

I just won my first silver panda from MCM yesterday and I am in another auction for another one that ends shortly.
