Has anyone ever come across a penny that is only approx. 5/16 of an inch. before? If so, what can you tell me about it? Thank you so much for your time.

I've seen small cents included with kid's games or toys.

I've also seen "Nixon Pennies, they keep getting smaller and smaller" that would fit your description.

When I was growing up, my parents had it in a printers box that they turned into a coffee table full of special family items. This would have been in the 70's. I just came across a box of the coffee tables contents when going through my fathers belongings. From what I can tell, it is so small, there is Abraham Lincoln on one side and the Lincoln Memorial on the other side.

Sounds like what happpens when a coin gets caught in the rain. Or left in a pocket when put in a washing machine. Happens to lots of my clothing.

http://www.capturedlightning.com/fr...esting1.htmlmaybe it was shrunk like this. just throwing it out there. I've got no idea if that's what it actually is or not. on a side note, those shrunken coins are so cool imo. I have been tempted to buy one for a while but my Barber dime collection comes first. too bad they don't have any shrunken Barber dimes. then again the purist in me has a hard time accepting the Barber dime being altered from it's original form. kind of like the Barber dime rings I see from time to time on ebay. it's cool but it hurts to know they did that to a piece of history like that to part of me.

So have them shrink a Barber for you... right there on the web page Quote: We can also "custom shrink" many other types of coins or tokens. Over the years, collectors have sent us Silver Eagles, European coins, Asian coins, bimetal coins, transportation and tax tokens, and even gold bullion coins to "shrink to order". Whenever possible, please send 1-2 spares of any uncommon coin to be custom shrunk so that I can "tune" the process for your coins. This also allows for potential process dropout - coin shrinking is still somewhat of an art...

"11: We do not offer silver dimes or quarters, since these fracture and often turn an ugly brassy yellow-green color due to stresses and flash heating during the shrinking process." I could probably get him to try ,despite their disclaimer, if I asked but if it doesn't work I'm basically just paying them to damage a decent coin. if it worked out it would be cool but the gamble is one I'm currently not able to take.

Hi, I'm the guy who shrinks coins. We have shrunk Barber halves for customers before. They shrink down to about 75-85% of their original diameter depending on how much energy we use - similar to Walking Liberty halves.
