Despite having the correct worn weight of 13.2g, a good ring, and decent obverse appearance, I missed the following surprise on the reverse of this 1807 Potosi 4R:

1807-4r-Potosi-Counterfeit?

The casting bubbles along the RH pillar make it look like the aerator in an aquarium....caveat emptor....

Are you sure that's not just die rust? Doesn't otherwise look to be cast.

There are an awful lot of bumps numismat, and they're all very regular in shape. I looked at a few other 4R's from the period and don't see this. I'd like to believe that it's a legitimate strike, and if someone has one that has bumps like these I'd like to see it.

I have an Argentinian coin that has similar looking bubbles, but is not cast. Any sign of flow lines, maybe between the central design and rims?

If there are flow lines they are microscopic. The surface of the coin has a uniform granular appearance. The squares and circles on the rim look authentic. For $30 I got a questionable coin - what I wanted actually - and maybe those bumps are the reason this 4R was in the junk bin and not in regular store stock.

Could be air entrapment bubbles created during the annealing process. Its not cast. The lettering is too sharp, it rings and has good weight.

This string on occluded gas bubbles shows some examples of striking or post-striking surface bubbling similar to the 4R.

These are copper and zinc coins of fairly recent mintage though. Here's an example on a Morgan dollar, so it is seen in silver coinage.
