does this coin have any value beyond the silver content? I thought I read somewhere that this was a low mintage year.

Is it uncirculated? It is hard to tell from the pic as it seems very white on my screen.

Wow, thanks for the link. I do not have it in hand yet. I just like old foreign silver :) I hope this isn't a fake coin or somthing because I paid far less than that for it.

You have to be extremely careful with these french indo-china pieces. The fakes are faked. I have bought so many counterfietsof this coin (knowing they were fake of course, to use for referance). A good way I use to spot fakes is by the small A on the reverse. Yours looks like the middle of the A might be filled in which is not a good sign. The picture is too small to tell for sure though. Get it checked out because if this is a legit specimen then you came up if you spent very little on it.

I've seen a lot of fakes of these types and yours looks consistent with them. Does not appear to be an original coin, and may not even be silver.

One problem, a 1909 should be made of .835 silver, yours is marked .680. They did not go to that purity until 1921.

Based on this I would expect an 835 for a 1909, not 680. And a real 1909 20C is a rare coin, so this is probably a numismatic forgery. What does it weigh?

Sorry to hear that but it is probably for the best. Better to save the money and buy a known good example instead of taking a risk. I don't know what auction house had it but did it come wiht any sort of guarantee?
