i was looking for an interesting small set that would cover all the coins of a political entity and my father suggested the Khorezm People's Soviet Republic as one such set - there are 8 types of coins in the set minted between 1920 and 1924, each hand hammered in one of three metals; copper, bronze, or brass.

this is a long term project considering that it took my father 22 years to complete his set. a complete denomination and date set is a total of 13 coins, but numerous varitions exist. the most expensive coin is Y#18, the 500 roubles from AH1339 (1920) which is valued at $350.00 in XF in the 34th edition of Krause.

no mintage figures are known, but this surely represents an interesting challenge for the seasoned collector. I'm looking forward to finding these coins in XF - hopefully it doesn't take 22 years.

I'd never heard of that one, either. Now I know a little more! It certainly looks like an interesting and challenging set for you to complete, and I wish you luck and enjoyment from it!

Have I heard of it? Yes. Also known as Kwarezm, Khwarezm or Khiva, in the 35th edition Krause it's listed under Uzbekistan, the modern state it was most analogous to. Coins were issued under the Russian Empire protectorate, the independent khanate and the Khorezm People's Soviet Republic.

Have I ever seen one of these coins for sale? Nope. I don't have any of the above - they're on my OFEC watchlist. Could be quite a challenge you've set for yourself.

Yes I have seen them but they are VERY pricey to begin with. To finish such a type set is monsterously difficult.
