I have two gold coins, here's the larger and nicer one (the other is a modern RCM 50 cent commemorative, it's very small): Austria, 1 ducat, 1915 (restrike)

Probably a gold stater of Alexander The Great of Macedon, Pella Mint, issued around 330 BC. I have visited Pella, which is about 50 kilometres northwest of Salonica (Thesalonika in the Bible). They were as relatively common then, as British sovereigns are today. This is the coin that Alexander paid his armies with, when he went on the rampage through southern Asia.
Needless to say, almost all of them have been melted down in the 2,300 years since then.
With the current high spot price of gold, the gold price even has an influence on the overall price of a coin such as this one.

The date was frozen on his death but they were made for years after that, so 1915 restrikes (like mine) have very little value over gold price. I think they're plenty more impressive than AGEs, though!

nalaberong Beautiful coin. Thank you for sharing.
denco The more Libertads I see the more and more I enjoy them. I recently added a silver Libertad to my world silver collection and I am very happy I did so.
As for gold coins, the most valuable ones I own are usually the gold wrapped chocolate ones and they sadly don't keep very long.

the most valuable gold coin I own right is a 1845 2 and a half dollar gold coin but I don't have it yet since I bought it from ebay, I bought it for 370 dollars and if it's in the condition that I think it's worth then it will be 600 dollars

I have a 1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle ($20) High Relief/Wire Rim in AU-50. One source lists it as retailing for $13,000. It was purchased for my gold NGC Registry Set (short type set).

I'd say mine is the 2006-S San Francisco Old Mint $5 Gold Proof.
I have half the design of an older $5 gold proof coin for a lot less than a period proof would cost.

I have a 25£ Guernsey 1995 Queen Elizabeth Commemorative somewhere around the house that's made up of a 1/4 oz. of gold. It's a puny amount, I know, but all I own. The spot value is probably pretty close to whatever the current value of gold is (divided by 4, of course).
