Okay...So I know a good bit about round metal things...but don't know anything about square paper stuff. Anyways, I got a brand spanking unc. 2009 Note but it stuck out to me because it seemed the serial number had been struck way to hard. The numbers are raised on the back side and indented on the front. Not sure if it is collectible. But I'll play the newbie....What say you?

I *believe* this is called embossing. I know collectors appreciate this on collectible currency but I'm not sure it adds any value to the piece itself. However, since it's only a dollar and it CU shape it wouldn't hurt to set it aside as a curio if you want

It may add a small premium to the note.Put it in a holder and hang on to it for a bit.

embossing can make a note's condition just that much better, sometimes raises it a grade with that kind of originality to the note.

That makes sense. I did notice it looked a lot "crisper" as far as the letters and lines.

I found a few like this on some new $5s. The strikes were deep enough to where the bills would interlock with eachother easily.

I'm not sure if they are worth a premium either, but its $20 I can hold onto for a bit so into the book they go.

great pics by the way - you don't usually see the serial number ink coming through to the other side.
