Hi. I was in the library the other day looking at a Civil War history book. On one page was a picture of Bullion Bank notes. They had $1, $2, and $3 notes pictured but no information to go along with it. Does anyone have information about Bullion Bank notes?

This being an obsolete, I assume there would some information in the Haxby books, but it won't have to much about the bank. Maybe check Heritage's archives for more

The above link provides a little info, not much though. Heritage archives also showed a $5 and a $10.

Most were redeemable in US Treasury notes though there were some that were redeemable in US Demand notes.

A link to one redeemable in US Demand notes: http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?sa...=33077#Photo

I don't have the Haxby book(s) so I am unable to assist you further. Someone in the community and this forum might be able to offer you that info.

According to Haxby, The DIstrict of Columbia Bullion Bank existed from 1861-1862 and it indicates that it failed. They issued a single date (Jan 1 1863) 50c, 3 different date $5 notes, and 3 different date $10 notes payable in coin on demand. They have Haxby #'s G4 to G10. They also issued $1, $2, and $3 dollar notes dated either 1 or 4 July 1863 payable in U.S. Demand Notes or U.S. Treasury Notes. These are listed as Haxby #'s G12 to G24.There are a number of different female portraits on the notes in addition to portraits of Washington but there is no info on them. There is also a listing for a New York Bullion Bank but it indicates that no notes were issued by that bank since it never opened. Hope this gives you a little more info!

Thank you all for the information. I don't have any of these notes but I enjoy learning from others.
