Hey guys. I picked up this Capped Bust Half for silver melt + 10%

I was super excited. This is now my oldest coin, and my second bust half.

I just now got to looking at it close this evening, and something is up with the date. There is something going on under the 4. I can't tell what, but it kinds looks like a 1. I don't have my loupe here, but a magnifying glass.

What in the heck is it?

larger photos and a close up of the date would help. also a photo of the reverse. could be a few things but hard to tell from that pic.

Tough to tell with this picture. However the 1824 CBH is known to have several overdate varieties. We would probably need better pictures to tell which one, unless one of the experts can tell based on this picture, which wouldn't surprise me either.

Maybe you can tell something from these photos.

This is my first attempt at giving an Overton id-ing so hopefully I'm not to far off:

Thanks! If any of you Overton experts out there can identify it, I'd love an estimate as to its value!

I agree with Meadowview O-110. Date confirms it 82 closer than 18 or 24.

It looks to me like Overton-110 (1824 over 4) to me.

Diagnostics for O-110/R2:

Obverse: Star 1 points to lower half of dentile. 4 is recut, showing earlier top left of diagonal. 82 is closer than 18 or 24.

Reverse: AME joined at base. Large dot shows in field below U. Arrowheads are joined by die defects, and two lower ones are connected to the shafts above. Small vertical tine shows at upper right side of O in OF. Letters of legend are crowded together. Right side of I is under left side of T.

Note: This marriage, and the O-109 marriage are not true overdates. They are simply 4 recut over 4.

My 1824 CBH, O-110 for comparison here. What do you think?
