I had my annual NGC voucher for 5 submissions...and I was going to the FUN show...So I couldn't resist gathering a few coins to submit for grading. Two were coins I had purchased raw and well-circulated. Both graded problem free (whew!). Three were Half Cents that I had cracked out of holders a while back, and here are the results: PCGS AU55 --> NGC AU55 old, white ANACS XF40 --> NGC XF40 old, white ANACS AU55 --> NGC AU58 Overall, these 3 data points agree with my previous data showing that grades are fairly consistent across the TPGs: https://goccf.com/t/158504Next time around, I have a few slabbed coins I am considering for crossover - something I've never done before. It will be interesting to see if the trends are any different.

This group was all Classic Head Half Cents, later dates, no keys or interesting varieties.

It could also be important to know when th original grades were assigned, and there is alo the problem that conclusions based on just three data points are probably highly speculative

Conder101, I totally agree with you. That's why I keep a complete database, which I've posted about in the link I gave above. I now have data on 35 cracked and resubmitted coins, various types, grades and TPGs. There is not enough data to speak about any particular type/date/grade/etc. However, two trends seems clear: (a) Grading is fairly, but not perfectly, consistent, with most coins regrading within one grade of their original grade. (2)I don't see a difference in performance between PCGS, NGC, and old, white slab ANACS.
These additional three data points fit with those trends - but of course in and of themselves are not conclusive.
Unfortunately, I do not have information about when the coins were originally holdered, so I don't have any insight into trends with time.

Thanks for this info, ProfLiz. I haven't been at this long, but my impression has been that the top 3 TPG companies are consistent with each other. Whether the coin is in an NGC, PCGS, or ANACS holder makes no difference to me. I trust the grade unless there is an obvious error. The only reason I stick with NGC and PCGS is because I just don't like the ANACS holders.
