Just had my first 1878 rev. of 79 morgan and trying to understand, before looking to which VAM is, which reverse is and if it is a short or a long nock.

At first sight I thought it was a c3 reverse with short nock but I not really sure about that.

Thanks
Vincenzo

It looks more like a C1 reverse in your last photo to me, however, second to last has a shadow and makes it look like a C3 reverse.

It looks like the C3. Check VAMs 220 - 232.

You might want to get some close ups of E PLURIBUS UNUM & LIBERTY for a good start.

Check 231. I think I see some of the die scratches in LIBERTY that match up. If that is not it then we will need a few more pictures, one of the eye and nose area, the obverse stars, and some closeups of the reverse lettering especially the A in AMERICA. These can be tricky without good closeup but I am sure with some more pictures we will have this figured out in no time. Also have you confirmed it is the C3 reverse?

I checked the 231 and seems to have the die chip on nose but can't see any another markers. For my inexperienced eye it seems to be a C3 reverse.

This is the link to the full size pic of "liberty" and here are the other pics that I couldn't make with daylight.
I have high resolution pics so I could also zoom and crop on a sigle file if you need.
