I'm considering to buy a 1878 8TF in f/vf condition that has certainly clashed marks (clashed n, maybe clashed st, vertical clash line from eagle's right wing to n & G and clashed marker between right wing and wreath). I don't have close up pics and can't determine which VAM is but I checked all the clashed on 8TF and the only one that seems to have all these clashed marker maybe is the 4A but I'm not really sure about that. Due to the pics that I have I can't determine neither in which category of right and left feather is, how is explained here http://www.vamworld.com/1878-P-2012...guide#Step_2Having regard to this situation What could be a good price to offer? Thanks Vincenzo

Does the clash line actually go into the N & the G?

This is the only 8TF I can find with a clash mark going into the G but it does not appear to have one going into the n. http://www.vamworld.com/1878-P+VAM-2A It could be a later die state of the 2A with an extra clash or a completely new VAM unless I missed one. I did not click on them all. Have you went through and looked at every single 8TF VAM listed to see if you could match it up with the pictures at the bottoms of the pages? KRis

Quote: Due to the pics that I have I can't determine neither in which category of right and left feather is, This is a dealbreaker; you must be able to identify those feather for a reasonable chance at attribution. The fact that you see clashing isn't necessarily conclusive - any Morgan can clash and just because we don't know that it's happened with a given VAM yet doesn't mean it hasn't. 8TF's have been studied closely enough so there isn't a whole lot of room for new information, but then again a new B1 reverse hadn't been found since 1965 when Bryan1315 came up with VAM-85 a couple years ago. For pricing purposes, therefore, view this coin as a "generic" 8TF. Assume it's the most common possible example, and I'd call US$50-60 the upper limit in the United States. I do not know what premium or savings you might see in Europe for similar coinage; that's up to you.

This is not the coin for you. It has been heavily cleaned and polished - the darker areas in/around the date and some letters, as well as the near-reflective appearance of the cheek and eagle's breast, are proof. I do not see any of the hallmarks of the truly rare 8TF varieties which might justify purchasing such an abused coin.

nothing jumps out as a tough VAM on this one.

It definately has a Clashed n or In, but I can't ID it with any of the listed 8TF. The clash line on the reverse does not match any of them. Do you think it could be a new 8TF Dave?

Nevermind, it is a VAM 14.1A I must have clicked it before because the link was purple and I figured I had already looked at it my first round through.
