I know the "proof" medallions are limited to the demand of a year, and can go higher in value. I bought one in the past, or so I thought. when I listed it on ebay I was informed there are two versions, the proof medallions which can go up due to low mintage, and a proof-like version, the first with a serial number on the edge, the other with a reeded edge. How can I find a source of the less expensive ones that I can better afford?

I see them come up occasionally on ebay. Some people want to charge a lot for them, other people treat them like silver rounds. The Alaska Mint produces these Medallions and you can view them on their website here: http://www.alaskamint.com/medallions.html

I would stay away from the ones with stickers on them, as they are just Ike dollars that have been defaced.
