I have been looking at some certified Anacs coins lately, and wanted to know, if you think that the old Anacs slabs or the new Anacs slabs offer more accuracy in coin-grading?

(Obviously I'll be buying the coin not the slab, but wanted opinions)

I look at them like I perceive the Old Green Holders by PCGS...I ask myself why hasn't this one been cracked out yet? Then, I look over the coin and find the problem or agree with the grade on the holder. But, as a whole, I would assume that the older holders are more likely to house more conservative graded coins.

I really have not seen a difference in grading whether in the new or old holders. I actually had some of the last coins graded in the old holders, right before they moved out of Ohio.

And truth be told, I liked the old holders much better. New holders do not fit in anything but the new ANACS storage boxes, which in my opinion, are a rip off.

Have a great one!!

I think there's no difference in grading between the old and the new, but I like there old holders better.

I absolutely love the new ANACS holder. It's much more compact, clear and really displays the coin better. Other holders, particularly the white ones seem much too intrusive to me. IMO the new ANACS holders are the only ones that make the coin the focal point, not the slab.

The smooth, ultra-clear material creates a visual sensation of being encased in class.

I was told by ANACS they will still use the old holder for problem coins(cleaning, scratches, etc) and only use the new holders for no grading problems. The new holders are most attractive, but if you want maximum value for your grading $$ use PCGS...they have consistently returned better than average returns on coin sales!!

I recently purchase a 1972 DDO in an old ANACS holder. I was also wondering the same. It's graded a 65 red. I'm really not good at grading but this coin does appear that it could be upgraded. I'd like to send it to PCGS, although I'm sure they wouldn't upgrade, but my hope is they might at least reslab it at a 65. I have heard of people who will pay more for the old green PCGS holder in hopes of getting an upgrade. I don't think the same would apply to ANACS though.
