How to place a value on Top Pop coins when no value is listed? I have my collection insured and I need a somewhat realistic number to report for my "new" additions coverage.

Thanking you in advance!

Id go high on insurance assuming it doesn't significantly jack up your cost. If its a one of a kind you obviously cant replace it and I would want significant compensation for that. If there are some others I would want an amount I know I could put in a nuclear type bid with would assure I get a replacement.

Good idea. I have five that are a population of ONE and ZERO higher.

This is a totally demand-centric evaluation. Doesn't really matter what the actual street value of the coin is - $1000 is the same as $1,000,000 if you're swimming in this pond - you have to base your value on what you think the competition would pay for it. How many PCGS/NGC Registry sets include this coin? How many of them appear in Heritage archives? These are fact-based realities, stuff you can shove up the nose of actuators determined to maximize their company's ROI (as well they should).

I'm going to guess that your coin is a Top Pop, 1/0 example. My proposed math dilutes just a little bit if it's 2/0 or better. But either way, base your reasoning on the above points, and activity in the next two grades down. Population. Turnover. Performance over time. If yours is MS65, what are MS64's doing? How many are there?

For that example, take the best MS64 price - if it's a flyer, the result of a bidding frenzy, discard it but if there's two flyers, use them as Gospel - and triple it. Adjust that multiplier upward if this is a higher demand issue, you should know the typical denomimations.

A 1/0 Morgan is 10x the next lower, especially if that lower has a high population. A 1/0 3CN is probably no more than 5x.

Listen, while I composed that post, a feed line to my toilet (which had frozen) thawed and broke. The resulting pyrotechnics took me away from the keyboard for a bit - I had no idea a toilet-surround carpet piece could hold so_much_water - and I missed your post about the Pops of your coins. My advice stands.

If all you are looking for is market price, and they are in PCGS or NGC holders, use their market guides, would be my guess, for insurance at least, not as a selling price indicator.

Westcoin, I cherry-picked a few varieties for which there is no value listed. Here is one of my examples;

1877-CC 50C Closed Bud Med CC RPD WB-104 (PCGS has graded ONE of this variety across all grades).

The closest I can come up with is an 1877-CC 50C.
