There were two 1878-P MS-63 Morgans sold at last night's Heritage auction. Both went for $86.25. This is the one I bought, unretouched photos:

Why am I so happy that I'm posting it in the Main Coin Forum?

It is probably another valuable VAM variety that I know nothing about.

It's not a major rarity, but it_is another Long Nock for my budding collection, at zero premium over a non-variety.

Ummmm Dave, I thought you had sold your Morgans and were on a collecting "walk about". Are they pulling you back?

Actually, it was more like "cashing out" than "walking out."

I did pretty well with cherrypicking nice 1921's for a couple years, and they became popular enough that there was a fresh infusion of new collectors into the specialty, looking to build collections. So, I cashed in my chips, and did rather well, if I do say so myself. That's what financed all these neat coins I've been posting here for the last few months.

Long Nocks have always been an interest to me, and now I'm feeding the interest. I'm still looking at 1921's, as well, although I haven't bought one in a while. That may change soon, and if it does, it's gonna change the Condition Census for a certain VAM.

Don't know about anyone else but I've got a 21" monitor and that coin is really nice. That coin measures 14" accross on my monitor. Now why can't someone make that coin in that size? I'd buy it. May not be able to lift it, but I'd buy it.

Oh nice coin and now I have a new link to yet another good site. I even have some old dollars put up I may need to look at with a critical eye and some education.
