I can defiantly see another "D" but I've never seen this one before. I looked on CopperCoins and didn't see anything similar. I'll see what others have to say. Or it could be zinc rot.....

My first impression was that it was a MM variety -- but when I enlarged the photos the second "D" doesn't look right and so I suppose it is a gas bubble.

The zincolns can be maddening that way. I keep seeing stuff that is just zinc rot.

Any kind of damage to the plating, even the tiniest pinhole, will allow the underlying zinc to corrode.

Zinc cents break by heart. I don't bother looking for any zinc cent errors because of this kind of thing. It's pointless to me. Those things rot so that even if you did have something cool, chances are that it won't matter in the long term. Unless it's something obvious like the WAM coins, I don't bother with them. In fact, after stopping at a store I usually cull the coppers and toss the rest out the window.
