It's mostly the obverse that concerns me (too bad there are a few spots there); I can't really tell if there's wear on the reverse.

I have a couple of Barber dimes that turned a similar color after being stored many years in a blue Whitman folder. I don't have a clue if there is any correlation between the method of storage and the toning. Some things are mysteries...at least to me.

You know, I came in here all primed to give back what you gave me in my Buffalo thread, but it's such a neat coin I'll spare you this time.

Barbers are a bear to differentiate between AU-MS. Based on incomplete evidence, I lean towards a slider, as much because of the high points of the reverse as anything else. Either way, I suspect the obverse would limit the grade to a greater extent as an MS coin than if it were AU - it's either 58 or 61-62.

It's a shame - the reverse is wonderful.

There's not much value for this coin between 58 and 62 fortunately, but I kind of wish that the obverse had been as nice as the reverse like you said, because the back looks about 65 if it was Unc.

Here's a case in point, the Barber dime from my 7070. It came back AU58 from PCGS.

Definitely looks UNC and it has a strong strike, what did you buy it as and for how much?

I bought it for the clashing - my pics do not exaggerate the clashing on this coin. It's the most heavily-clashed Barber dime I've ever seen. It was acquired here at Coin Community, from a member, for about what you'd expect a AU58 slider to sell for - $100-ish. We both believed it to be MS62-63.

I still do, but who cares? The slab didn't last half an hour after I got it back.

Very nice barber superdave. I disagree with PCGS's grade of AU58.
