Nice early wooden nickel. Not likely legal tender, but you'd likely be able to get someone to take if for a nickel in Kitchener!

chequer...You are probably right, but I presume that year is was classified as legal tender...Still a nice piece to hold on to..

I have a couple from Niagara Falls! Souveniers or an early form of Municipal Trade Tokens.

You know what....it would be interesting to find out what types of wood all these wooden nickels are made of...?....maybe there are rare ones out there....

I have at least one of these Niagara Falls wooden nickels also from when I was a kid. I bought a keychain 1967 "Lucky Rabbit Nickel" encased in lucite at a store and they were giving the wooden nickels out free with all purchases. And, being serious I think they are Maple.

I am not even sure where they are to go check though!

I really like this Kitchener one though.
