Are 1922 No D/Weak D Lincoln Wheat Cent / LWC S Considered A Variety Or An Error?

Filled dies and over-polished dies(which is what these 1922s were) are considered by many to be errors because there was a change to the die during use. It started out as a normal die, then the over polishing removed devices off the die. Same with the three legged buffalo. People buy them, but give me an EDS coin and happier. I don't like the VLDS coins that are die varieties. They started out as a variety and still are, but not as desirable in the later die states. Report this Post to the Staff
edweather Pillar of the Community United States 7375 Posts	Posted 02/01/2014 12:51 am Thanks. I drilled a little deeper into the PCGS website and they call it a 'Minor Variety or Die Variety.' The reason I'm asking is because I have a couple of them I need graded, and am trying to figure out if I have to pay extra to get the "STRONG REVERSE" on the label. All of them from PCGS have that designation, but I am curious if it's included in the grading fee of if it costs extra. While the obv die was use in an earlier stage with the D mintmark, the die pairing of the obv after the D was removed was only with the one new rev die and every coin from that die pairing was a No D. The weak D's were inconsistant with the mintmark coming and going. At best they would be a die stage and I probably wouldn't even call them that. Report this Post to the Staff
