Did anyone see this article about a 1974-D aluminum penny found in a desk. Guy sold it to a coin shop and they didn't think it was worth much. However the coin shop realized what it was and actually called the guy who sold it to tell him. He is a link to the article.

I think it's commendable that the shop owner contacted the person that brought it in and will share the proceeds with him. That's a stand up person. Even more incredible is that they will put the money to doing some good.

kind of neat, but I personally feel the government should stop the auction and take it back as they still consider it their property and I see it as such too. it belongs in the Smithsonian imo. Although I do like how they plan on donating the money to charity. I'd imagine they will get a nice tax write off for it though.

This coin is completely different than the 1933 $20, and according to THIS article, it is legal to own.
