Coop, 1955 S penny think this is something for you,it seems like a minor DDO but could be SD/MD this is a curiosity the devices seem to be in place in liberty and the first 5 of the date? opinion please

It might be a die gouge/die dent on that area. The fields are the outside part of the die, so if it had made contact in the area it would be dented/gouged into the die, creating a raised field area.

The dies from the 1950's suffered a lot of over use during that decade. If you note the 55 are different on each. Possible die wear on the second one. A little contact on the first 5 making it a little wider at the top. The centers are both showing wider area from coin contact. But nothing real special.

I took a look at LIBERTY. It seems normal. I think you are noting the notch at the lower part of the "R". But if a doubled die is observed, it affects all the devices.

I think your are now at the point where you are looking too hard for a doubled die. I've been there myself. The eye gets trained so much it notices everything. But hub doubling is more uniform. When you find a doubled die, it leap out at you. Then you will know that we are looking to hard for something that may not even be there. But keep looking, they are out there.
