I just opened a "mint sealed" roll of 1997 in the clear shrink wrap and found 10 x 2005p in there? Whats up with that? The 1997 were spotty but otherwise great condition.

I once bought a 1999 roll of quarter from a large dealer and later discovered more than half in the roll are circulated ones. Plastic shrink ones are easy to take out and reassemble.
However I did find a regular 2012 25c in a 1812 war roll. I checked but didn't find anything special. I set it aside anyway.

Plastic shrink rolls are easy to take apart and re-seal. If you squeeze the top half a little the coins fold over and can be slid out. They can then be placed back and with a heat gun, the shrink can be re-shrunk. Personally I stay away from `mint wrapped` originals rolls too easy for a dishonest person to have messed with them first.

Thanks guys...i just want rolls of bu coins so I get the wrapped. Will for sure consider other avenues for the years that are plastic wrapped. I bought it off ebay from one guy. Bought about 8 different years...the rest were all good though. I did contact the seller and asked him where he was getting his rolls from and explained what happened. He aid he bought it a flea market a few years ago. I gave him heads up to be cautious if he was still dealing with that seller. The roll didn't cost me a lot of money so I will swallow this one.

Does "Pointless much?" refer to my question asking the denomination samsnate?
8 year old coins made it into your roll.
My point, 2005p cents are not exactly common to find in rolls. 10 together in a strange package adds to the strangeness in a way.

Quote: Does "Pointless much?" refer to my question asking the denomination samsnate? Nope your question was totally appropriate since I should have specified the denomination in the beginning. I meant pointless for someone to go through the trouble of trying to re seal a penny roll of 1997. Although, I was happy that they were 2005p I didn't even have on for my album. The 1997s didn't look to be in mint state but the 2005s were. Aside from the possibility of someone trying o reseal... is there another explanation that anyone can think of?

The mint does not have exclusive right to the plastic wrapped rolling system. Coins are rolled at the mint by mint employees on Brinks proprietary equipment under the supervision of Brinks staff. In 2005 many coins were not rolled by the mint, they were rolled under contract by Brink's. I doubt the mint is Brink's only customer.

For what it's worth, at Winnipeg RCM tour last July, I saw them clear shrink wrapping coins at one stage of the process as the tour was nearing the end.
