In a recent topic called "Ideas for Canada's 150th" one of the responses showed a Photoshopped pic of a Lonnie with the Voyageur theme (nice job canuckyank and nalaberong). This got me thinking. We all know the story of how the "Lonnie " was suppose to have Voyageur image but the plates (dies) got misplaced and so the Loon took its place.
As coin enthusiasts would we call this a fortunate mistake or would the traditional Voyageur image have been better?
I know that I love the Voyageur image , but the Lonnie has a Canadian identity feel to it which I also really like.
Any thoughts?

I suppose this could be a pole.

Hopefully you have a voyageur $1 coin in 2017, along with another provincial and territory quarter series. The ARP has destroyed most of the 1992 Canada 125 coins in circulation, sadly.

I loved the Voyageur and was looking forward to it being on the one dollar coin. I was not happy that there was a change made. I wasn't too excited when I saw the Loonie and it still doesn't do much for me - sorry.
I was a teenager in the mid '60s. Silver dollars were around somewhat and my dad collected coins. I knew the Voyageur look. For many Canadians today they don't even know what a silver dollar is/was so most Canadians are probably okay with the Loonie - that is all they ever knew.

I like nalaberong's concept of both appearing together for the 150th. But if I had to choose just one it would be the voyageur.

I love this idea so much , I used a couple images together to create what I thought would make a nice new coin.. Now because they have color technology it would look awesome I think if the loon would be a hologram or just colored.... The left flying Loon is my girlfriends vision the other is mine...Hope you like them ..lol OK so she is better at this than I am

I like the bird better without the water background. It feels more like part of the image. It might even spawn varieties like bird droppings in boat, on man's head and so on.

The Voyageur is a great idea! I have one myself and it's a great addition to my collection. I personally think the loon image on the loonie should be redesigned; maybe bring some action to the image, like the 1997 loon taking off.
