It can't be silver, because it's got the P mark. But it doesn't show any signs of other metals in the edge. I don't have a scale but it sounds different than every other quarter I've got. What do you think?

Might be the shadows, but I see copper on the edge. You are right, with a P mint mark, it cannot be silver.

It's sitting on a wood desk, that color is merely refection.

Either silver plated or platinum plated. Weight is easier to tell if its been plated.

weight it. Silver quarter weights 6.25g and clad quarter 5.67g. Come back and tell us if it is struck on a silver plate.

Looks like it's plated to me especially from the last picture.

My first guess is plated with something.

Interesting find. So did you weigh the coin? If plated, looks to be a nice job. Features look crisp for a plated coin.

Plated. An escapee from one of those "home shopping" sets.

I don't have a balance, so I can't weigh it. jbucks conclusion makes the most sense.

Visiting Key West on Feb. 15th, I got a similar quarter in change; looks identical to the pictures except is 2002P Louisiana. Also appears to be silver but by what Jbuck says is probably not. Nice coin, though. I brought it back with me to Canada.
