Received an order from Provident recently of some BU rolls of silver Roosevelt dimes. Previous rolls from them have been really nice, but these IMO were a mess. I sent them a few pictures, and they agreed to exchange them.....whew! But they said this was normal toning. I've never seen this kind of toning and wanted nothing to do with it. I swear some of the coins were a little stuck together. Anybody ever seen this yellowish/greyish gunk before? For future reference, is it removable? Thanks. Ed

I kinda like toning on silver coins but that is just crap on those coins. It's like someone with greasy fingers held them and the oils attracted that gunk.

Perhaps someone was having pancakes when they were rolling these dimes.

Thanks. That's what I thought. How could they even say it was normal. Even funnier, the return label they sent me was only for a 10oz package, and the package weighs 23oz. So I'm still waiting for the correct label to return them. What a firedrill this is.

While you are waiting, try an acetone bath. Can't hurt.

Thanks. Coins went back this am. I wanted to attempt a bath, but just didn't want to mess with coins I was returning. Am sure I will have another opportunity. You should have seen the proof quarters with finger prints on them. Yikes. They went back too.

Provident finally got it right and made good on the dimes. They sent a couple of nice original wrapped bank rolls. They also finally got the BU silver Washington quarters correct after 4 tries. Instead of sending me a roll of proof quarters again, they sent a bank wrapped roll. Why it took so long to get a decent product I'll never know. Will steer away from them for a while. Having much better results with APMEX lately

BTW this is what Provident had sent me for BU quarters, which I returned.

I don't keep messing around with them. The bad dimes and quarters were all part of the same order, my last order. Emphasis on the word LAST. Plus, if they didn't screw up my last order so bad, I wouldn't have ended up the cherry OBW rolls. Just too much aggravation though, and I won't go to that well again for quite a while.

I think I bought a military rifle once that came with some spare parts that was coated with that stuff. Kind of like grease. The stuff on the coins was dried. I might have been able to clean them but wasn't going to mess with it if I didn't have to.
