Yes, very much so, it's really beautiful! I know its not milled but lately I have been getting into hammered coins (mostly for historical purposes i.e. the dates and monarchs themselves). I think they are so cool and I love history!

Larger sized hammered coin.
I gave my example of Charles 1 to my son a couple of years ago.
He recently completed portrait set of English / British kings and queens Elizabeth 1 to Elizabeth 11 IN SHILLINGS, with most major obverse types. Grades Fine to Uncirculated.

Jolly nice EMC! And good toning. If you ever get into the series you'll find there are plenty of different designs to choose from!

As one of my friends said to me when I recently ventured into a new collecting area, "Welcome to the dark side!"

Nice coin. A weak strike, which is pretty common with this type. I'm not into hammered coinage as much as milled but still, wouldn't mind having this beauty in my collection!

Thank you keepcalmandcoinon and Tom! I did see a few different designs and they are beautiful. I just think these hammered coins are so cool all around! As far as hammered go I now have Edward I, James I and now Charles I.

Just out of curiosity, any ideas as to what happened on the reverse?

Charles 1 hammered shillings are relatively thin.
This one must have been slightly bent, worn on the ridge, before being straightened.

I have found that the best way to straighten a bent hammered coins is to sandwich it between two pieces of hard rubber about 3mm thick, and flatten the whole lot in a vise.

Yes, I think you can see the corresponding crease to the obverse just to the right of Charles' head?

Nice coin. I also collect British hammered and milled coins. I just bought a Liz 1 1562. I'll post images once I get it in.

Thanks and that's awesome! I just recently purchased 2 coins, this one being the most recent and the other being an Elizabeth I 1562 sixpence. Looking forward to the pics
