I haven't had both of these coins in hand at one time. Both are from 1943. 5 Cents

Looks like there are traces of denticles on the mint state version, above D.G. Rex.

There is denticles because the side struck by the die had denticles. If there were no denticles on either side it would be a 1942. I suppose they could be 1944's!
