This guy has an ad posted on the local craigslist site for some silver coins.

The Ikes aren't silver but I was wondering if the other coins in the ad made the lot worth the $170 he is asking.

closer to $115 in melt. I would not pay more than $110 for the lot.

Somebody will probably give him that price, but if we have anything to say about it, it won't be a CCF member.

Noncollectors always "assume" (and you know what they say about that) that there is some big collector value premium on common silver coins, and that is almost always NOT the case with 99% of the silver deals I have bought in my (long) life. Now, that guy that came to me with those AU Capped Bust halves made out sweet, because I paid him right for them, even though he had NO idea what he had. But that was a one-in-a-thousand deal.

Best Regards,

George

There really is no premium in those coins, and even if there was a little, he is still asking way more than I'd feel comfortable paying. You can find a much better deal at your local coin shop, if you have one. Good luck!

$115 +/- a little would be fair. $170 is crazy and the sad thing is that he will likely find a buyer.

Lots of suspect ads as well like this one from Lima, Ohio. All Carson City Morgans? Yeah right! Looks like a lot from AliExpress straight off the boat from China.

Heh. I talked to the guy and and said I was interested in the coins. He replied that someone else said they were interested too and whoever got to him first had purchasing rights(I'm assuming a ploy to try to get me to buy them). I replied that I was going to make an offer of $120 but if someone was willing to pay his asking price he should go with them. A couple of days later he replied that he would probably be taking them down to our local coin shop and sell them to the shop. I told him not to expect anything near his $170 and that the silver Ikes he had listed in his ad had no silver content at all. Re told me that if I still wanted them for $120 I could have them. I never said anything back. Here is his new listing he posted a dar or so ago:

That's really interesting Papasquirrel1! He lowered the price but took out the Ikes now, so his price is still kind of high. I just hope someone won't get ripped off...
