a fiend of mine just gave me this penny that is dted 200 with the last number missing. the obverse and reverse only show 50% of the rest of the coin on the planchet its sort of half mooned. does anyone have any knowledge on this error?

Does it look like the picture Fred posted, or is yours a round coin that has had a crescent shape cut out of it? I think it's possible for a planchet to get hit again by the cutting machine thereby leaving a blank planchet with the crescent cut out of it. That "clipped planchet" can then go through the minting process.

looks like an off center or I should say it is an off center cent. about 30-40% off center.
nice coin you will do good with it on ebay or here when you get your 50.
