I have bought quite a few coins on ebay, but I've seldom needed to return one. Usually it goes without a hitch, but this time the seller is dragging their feet, despite having a "14 day return policy", which ebay makes quite clear Quote:
If you specify in the Return policy section of a listing that you accept returns, a buyer can start a return for that item for any reason. In this case, the seller questioned my reasons from the start, which I took as a sign of potential trouble. And sure enough, it's been two weeks and the seller hasn't confirmed the coin has arrived. I'm now outside their 14-day return policy--how convenient  . Am I out of luck, or do I still have a case with ebay? I opened a claim when I shipped the coin--do I need to escalate things? Did you return it with tracking hope you did or the seller will say he never received the coin.

No, I didn't use tracking because it would cost ~$20 to ship Intl. Priority Mail from here to just over the Canada border.  It would cost me less in gas!  If the seller's going to deny ever receiving it, I will pursue matters with ebay. Edited by DVCollector

Good luck you will have a hard time getting your money back , can you post the listing.

I've had a pretty good track record buying off eBay--so this might just be one of those lessons--only buy coins from trusted sellers or easy to return.  I'll post details about the item/seller if they never follow through on their end. |

Without tracking he can just claim he never got it. Always use some sort of tracking for anything ebay related. If you have a good history with ebay and its not to expensive they may just eat the cost and refund the money themselves but they really shouldnt force a return without evidence of one happening. Needless to say no reason to ever buy from them again. |

If the seller is completely nonresponsive--and ebay will do nothing--I still have feedback to leave. Whatever the outcome, it wasn't an expensive lesson. |

@DV yea I completely understand about the cost of it sometime. Big catch 22. Without it though youre at the mercy of the other persons honesty. Of course if everyone was honesty tracking wouldnt have to be offered by the post office in the first place.
Sometimes with questionable situations like that I think its better to just keep it and try and resell it instead of risking it.

Fools rush in where angles fear to tread. Well ... here I go... I do not sell on ebay to cross boarder addresses. I feel it is best for me to just sell to the 48 No insult offered ... No insult intended ... just business. |

I agree with Domain555. I do not sell nor buy on ebay anything that is outside of the 48 states. I got burned a few times as a seller and once as a buyer going outside the 48. First thing you want to do is establish email contact with the buyer or seller, but only through ebay's mail system and not your private servers. If after the email doesn't work open up a dispute with ebay. Lot of ways to get your money back but return mail internationally is quite costly. Good luck. Just my opinions edgman     |

How much did you pay for the coin? Your credit card company and paypal might help back you up too. How did you pay?
I just returned an expensive coin....track, sign, and fully insured was $19. Yeah it hurt, but not getting my $900 back would hurt a lot more.
Right now I'm getting a $300 coin in the mail from a guy that didn't use tracking. There are some trusting souls out there.

I thought it would be an easy return, so I've learned something about intl purchases. I paid through paypal, so perhaps there's some recourse there--although I've already written this one off. |
