Here is the 1857 Flying Eagle cent I received yesterday. I won it on ebay in an auction with a poor photo that didn't give a grade. I was quite surprised to see what I had actually won. The obverse is mostly red with some blue/purple toning on the right wing and above it. The reverse is full red. I've never submitted a coin to PCGS or NGC but am considering sending this one in. It's certainly my nicest Flying Eagle. Paul Bulgerin

Beautiful Flying Eagle cent, Paul! I love the design of this coin, and they are tough in these high grades. I shall call you Eagle Eye!

Sorry for this post in advance...
Seeing this coin made me pretty emotional since it is basically the one that got me into collecting. I have a nearly slicked version of this coin and it is the oldest I have. It was given to me by my grandfather before I was 10, along with all of his coins. Its pretty sentimental and to see one in this condition is amazing. I love it, and am quite jealous. I never have really seen how beautiful this coin is until that.
Curious, how much did you get it for, and nice steal. Love it!!

I got it for $177 and was completely shocked that as high as the bidding went. My high bid was a lot more than that.
I, too, have a soft spot for Flying Eagles. When I was fourteen I went with my father to a little coin show in Minneapolis, MN (this was 1970) and purchased an 1858 LL Flying Eagle for $8.00. I think it graded Fine. A few years later the coin disappeared from my collection. I always suspected my brother's friend took it, but couldn't prove it. I really liked that coin.

Ohh... very very nice. MS/BU. $177 is an excellent price for a coin of that caliber.

I don't have 177 for that, or the luck. Looked like I found one starting at 35 and its blurry pictures. As a college kid, I don't have the extra money to take chances but I'm glad you lucked out. Its beautiful.

Wow! Nice score. Definitely worth sending in to PCGS or NGC.

Holy cow, you hit that one square out of the park. Small pics, but I'm having trouble seeing any wear. This is a $350+ coin in a PCGS slab. If you have a good relationship with a local dealer you could maybe piggyback this one with one of his submissions.
