This penny looks like it has triple 9's and a triple 1 of the 1 cent... would that be what it is called or would it still just be called doubling? Also, what causes doubling? Is the coin struck twice or does it shift during the strike?
It looks like you have a die shift on your coin. Both a doubled die and a die shift will look like they are doubled, but they look a little different from each other. I still ask now and then when I'm not sure, but I'm learning. There is still Die Deterioration Doubling that can cause a doubled look. You call a third "double" a Tripled Die.
Tough call..it looks like the die or coin took a bounce in the striking chamber known as "push doubling" also looks like there might be some Machine Doubling too. Need experts opinion.
