So I sorted through a pile of pennies I have and culled out the 1998, 1999, and 2000 dates. I ended up with nearly 500 in mixed coins. About half way through I found this -

Sadly, the date has some black corrosion. But I set it aside anyway until I find a replacement specimen.

I did a browse at ebay - apparently the condition of my penny isn't as bad as I thought, relative to what is on the market there for the moment. Ranging from $8 to $25 for a circulated coin.
